Driving/Reflex Tests  Driving/Reflex Tests

It seems that recently there have been a lot of articles about seniors driving. An article in the NY Times was pretty insightful . Another interesting piece this week in caring.com talks about whether people with dementia are allowed to drive a car, and surprisingly they are. The article goes on to talk about whether they should or not. AARP said in a piece in June 2008, that there are only two dozen states that impose special provisions for elder drivers. They present some interesting arguments for and against testing. There are also some good links for coping with this issue on their site.

When I took a driving course, years ago, at Skip Barber , the scariest part of the class wasn't the skid pad, but rather the classroom part when the instructor told us that most people's driving skills peak 5000 miles after they get their license. Think about how young you were when you had 5000 miles under your belt. Hey, who even remembers that far back?
